Students shine at cross country meet

Local students from Centre Wellington District High School did well at the Sept. 17 Dundas Valley cross country meet at Christie Lake Conservation Area.

Top place finishers were:

– Mark Patton, senior boys, second, 5km;

– Eric Morris, midget boys, third, 4km;

– Elizabeth Teasell, junior girls, second, 3km;

– Jessica Cuabu, senior girls, fifth, 4km; and

– Christina Dolderman, senior girls, sixth, 4km.

Team awards were also presented, with the top four runners in each category determining team scores.  

Centre Wellington placed third  for senior girls. The team consisted of Rebecca Pronk, Christina Dolderman, Hayley Chase and Jessica Cuabu.

The midget boys placed fourth. Members were Eric Morris, Jake Cousineau, Tyler Young and Liam Johnston.

All 17 athletes on the team were strong competitors in fields of 80 to 100 athletes. Students new to cross country participated and did exceptionally well. Some of the athletes competed in the Guelph community Falling Leaves event last weekend.

The team’s next meet is the University of Waterloo’s Pre-OFSAA on Oct. 9.
