ERIN - David Crook, a grade 11 student at Erin District High School, recently won the Optimist Club of Erin’s essay contest based on the theme, “When all the world’s problems are solved, is optimism still necessary?”

He received a commemorative plaque and a gift card for his submission.

The essay was sent on to the district level to be judged along with winners from other Optimist clubs across central Ontario.

“David did a wonderful job on articulating this year’s theme,” club president Erik Mathisen said. “He expressed himself very well.”

At the district level, Crook placed third among all the submissions.

The Optimist Club of Erin has been participating in the contest for a number of years and has been active in the community since 1980.

Other club projects include the Erin Fall Fair, school barbecues, OPP Kids programs, the Terry Fox Run, the Santa Claus parade, and community event support.
