Shae Reaman wins gold with Team Canada

Wellington North player Shae Reaman helped Canada’s junior ringette team take down host Finland 10-9 in overtime on Jan. 3 to claim gold at the world ringette championships.

The Canadian squad was undefeated in round robin play and beat the Finns in two straight games in the best-of-three final series.

Reaman, who served as assistant captain for the team, shared her elation on twitter following the game saying, “No words to describe this experience.”

She was on the ice when Ottawa’s Sarah-Lynne Begin scored the overtime winner.

“I knew she was going to put it in the net and I just remember her arms going up in the air and her jump and just like the whole crowd going crazy,” Reaman told the Advertiser on Jan. 6.

Reaman added the experience hasn’t really sunk in yet.

“After we won and were given the trophy we just stayed on the ice for a bit,” she said.

“There was no one left in the arena and we just sat in the centre of the ice just taking in everything that happened in the last 15 days.”

Reaman scored three times in the tournament, logging important minutes on defence.

Begin, who said scoring the game winning goal felt “freaking amazing,” picked up a hat trick and three assists in the final game. She was named player of the game for Canada and also picked as top centre and MVP for Canada for her performance in the event.

Guelph’s Abby Richardson and Moncton’s Jenny Snowdon picked up hat tricks in the game.
