Several deaths, serious injuries after two-vehicle crash near Conestogo Lake
All ten people involved suffered serious injuries
MAPLETON – Ten people were involved in a collision in Mapleton on Friday night, which resulted in several fatalities and serious injuries for everyone inside the two vehicles.
A van and an SUV collided at 4th Line and Wellington Road 12, about five kilometers east of Conestogo Lake Conservation Area, on June 12 at around 7:30pm, according to an OPP press release.
There were nine people in the van and one in the SUV.
"All drivers and passengers suffered various serious injuries and were either assessed at the scene, sent to local hospital, or air lifted to various trauma centres," the release stated.
Multiple people suffered life-threatening injuries in addition to the fatalities.
At 9:45am on June 13, the OPP were still on the scene, including its traffic incident management enforcement team.
At that time, the intersection was still closed in all directions and OPP said it would remain so for most of the day and possibly into the evening.
"The OPP is also working on confirming all next of kin have been notified prior to any additional information being released, out of respect for the families involved," the release stated.
"Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or has information, such as dashcam footage, that could assist with this ongoing investigation is asked to contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122."
