Scottish Festival dubbed a success

FERGUS – Organizers are calling this year’s online Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games – dubbed the Wee Digital Ceilidh 2 Go – a resounding success.

It’s the second year the festival went digital and organizers said there were 27,868 views over the Aug. 12 to 15 weekend, which is comparable to in-person attendance numbers in a normal year.

The festival celebrated its 75th anniversary with a Gala 2 Go event and for the price of a ticket, visitors received two engraved commemorative Scotch glasses and a variety of local fare to accompany an evening of exceptional entertainment at home.

The gates to the Wee Digital Ceilidh 2 Go opened with the very moving hearth lighting. Visitors could then ‘stroll’ around the online festival tents to enjoy traditional events and performances, demonstrations and educational components, guest presentations and interviews, and many fun segments with a modern spin.

“The weekend truly had something for everyone,” organizers said. “Visitors from far and wide, including fans from Scotland, responded enthusiastically to the online events.”

The festival will be available for viewing for a few more weeks by visiting www.fergusscottishfestival.com.

“The 2021 Festival was an incredible success, proving that we are able to adapt and continue to be a world-class festival. We couldn’t do that without the support of our fine local and festival community,” organizers said. “The Fergus Scottish Festival is grateful for the ongoing support it receives and offers a most sincere thank-you to the dedicated volunteers, talented competitors, performers, special guests, local businesses, and steadfast patrons.”

Organizers hope next year’s festival, already booked for the August 12 to 14 weekend in 2022, will be back to live and in-person celebrations. But they are preparing for anything, they say, including a hybrid of live and online.
