Rehab of bridge on Beatty Line North has started

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Rehabilitation of the concrete structural components of Bridge 3N on Beatty Line North was  to begin June 19.

The work on the bridge, located between Sideroads 10 and 15 in the former municipality of Nichol, will use a carbon fibre reinforced polymer rehabilitation system.

The project will include:

– chip and patch concrete girders and soffit;

– engineer, supply and install carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) shear and flexural reinforcing on girders; and

– complete restoration of the site to a preconstruction state or better.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by August.

The CFRP system is a lightweight, high-strength composite used to strengthen concrete columns, slabs, walls, and beams to regain structural strength.

Bridge rehabilitation covers many complex engineering problems as well as economical ones.

“This innovative technology will make the structure stronger as the carbon wrap goes right over the existing structure, minimizing disruption during repair and saves significantly on installation time and costs,” stated Mayor Shawn Watters.

“Thank you staff for continually ensuring our infrastructure is prioritized on the basis of our asset management plan and bridge condition reports, while capitalizing on new cost-effective and advanced methods for rehabilitating our assets.”
