RBC makes donation to St. John Ambulance

By day, he manages RBC in downtown Fergus. At other times, Mark Burton is a volunteer in the community.

Because of that, he was able to make a donation of $500 on Tuesday on behalf of RBC to St. John Ambulance.

Burton explained that volunteering is a fundamental act of citizenship, and philanthropy in society, and in bank employees’ free time, many RBC employees lend their energy and expertise to organizations and initiatives that affect virtually every aspect of their communities – including health, education, social services, youth, arts and culture, sport and recreation.

For many employees volunteering isn’t a one-time experience, it is a lifetime activity.

Burton said, “As an employee of RBC Royal Bank, I was granted the opportunity by RBC Foundation of making an annual donation to a not-for-profit organization. The criteria is that we must volunteer at least 40 hours of our time to John Ambulance is the recipient of my allotted donation this year. “

He explained, “Through my role as a Medical First Responder, trained by St. John Ambulance, I have logged over 260 hours in volunteer services this year, providing medical response at many community events.

Those events include Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games, Arthur Fall Fair, Fergus Fall Fair, many concerts performed by Elora Festival Singers, Quarry Concerts, the Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, just to name a few.

He noted, “We also meet weekly to receive ongoing training in, and practice on, advanced First Aid techniques.”

Anyone interested in obtaining, renewing, or upgrading a Standard First Aid course, can contact Debbie Bath Morrison at 519-846-8704 or email Debbie at fergus@on.sja.ca.

Burton said RBC believes in building prosperity by caring for the communities in which its employees live and work. As one of Canada’s largest corporate donors, he said the bank take seriously its responsibility to lead through the sharing of expertise, ideas and financial resources.
