Railroad club offers train show Nov. 6

The Pacific Western RR and Thomas the Tank Engine invite kids of all ages to a train show on Nov. 6 from 10am until 5pm at our club at 50 Crimea St., off Edinburgh Road between Paisley and Waterloo Streets here.

The 2,400 square foot layout models the fictitious Pacific Western Railroad, which is a cross country Canadian based bridge line that joins the Canadian National and the Canadian Pacific railroads. Our 750-foot and longer main line is single track and provides many operating problems for members.

The club also has lots of passing tracks and over 100 industry sidings that add to the operational issues during a session.

The twice monthly operating sessions employ a freight forwarding system using car cards and a fast clock that moves things along with the help of a Digitrax Command Control system.

Members provide their own motive power so visitors may see equipment ranging from the newest diesels to some of the older steam powered locomotives. The club was founded in 1968 and has operated continuously since then, and over the years it has enjoyed entertaining diverse groups from men’s clubs to Cub Scouts.

The club has a section of the layout where kids can try their hand at operating a train and it also has a scavenger hunt where kids can try to spot a selection of scenic oddities on the layout.

New members are always welcome and the train show is a way to get an introduction to the hobby.

Admission is $5 for adults and kids under 12 are free. Further information is available at 519-856-4983 or 519-763-3535 or at our website www.trainweb.org/GMRS/.
