It seems hard to imagine, but the 15 hospital foundations participating in this year’s Radiothon on Oct. 18 are taking aim at raising $1-million by the completion of this year’s campaign.
Last year 14 participating hospitals raised a total of $902,040.
“Even considering the tough economic times we find ourselves in, we still have a shot at the one million,” said Gary Chard, Development Officer for the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation (PDHF).
“Our communities have a proven track record in support of their hospitals. In our case, since the inception of the radiothon in 2002, the communities of Minto and Mapleton have amassed total donations of $503,042 for the priority needs of the Palmerston and District Hospital.”
The PDHF reports that all past donors have been contacted through a mail out and information has been placed in local businesses, including banks.
Chard said, “The Radiothon focuses on the individual citizen with the philosophy that ‘If we all give a little, we all get a lot.’ Every donation is significant and appreciated.”
Kathy Watt, president of the foundation, said, “Our goal is to ensure that our medical staff has the most up to date equipment in order to deliver quality care to members of our community.
“The Radiothon project this year, the purchase of a new laboratory chemistry analyzer, is an example of this.”
Community members are encouraged to send their donations in to the hospital prior to Oct. 18. Donations can also be dropped off at local banks. Donors may also phone in on the 18th to make a pledge. CKNX radio stations, AM 920 and FM101.7 The One will broadcast live from 9am to 5pm. Call 877-227-3486 to donate.
The Foundation Health Care Heroes Radiothon Mapleton team will be participating in the Mapleton Fire Fighters Pancake Breakfast celebration which is also being held on Oct. 18 from 7:30 to 11:30am.
The whole family is invited and the PDHF is encouraging the citizens of Mapleton and surrounding areas to support this community event.
