Question raised about need for adjustment at Puslinch intersection

A proposed two-way stop at Forestell and Roszell Roads might be on hold for the moment.

Hans Groh of Gamsby and Mannerow wrote to Puslinch council about examining the intersection of Forestell and Roszell Roads. The idea was to  consider creating a two-way stop at the intersection and bend where the two streets meet.

Groh said vehicles travelling north on Forestell would have good visibility and sufficient sight lines for safe stopping distances. He added that vehicles on Roszell travelling east go around a slight curve before heading south on Forestell.

“This section of the curve will need to be removed to provide a safe stop condition at the proposed new intersection alignment.”

Groh estimated about 100 metres of road would need to be rebuilt to suit the proposed intersection and accommodate safe stopping distances.

He further estimated costs to rebuild the area would be between $38,000 to $40,000.

Mayor Dennis Lever said the issue originated with a discussion he’d had with Clerk Brenda Law.

Lever said his idea is simply to put the project into the 2012 budget talks.

Councillor Wayne Stokley asked, “How necessary is it with the amount of traffic that flows through there?”

Stokley said he travels the area frequently on bicycle. “It’s probably one of the safest areas to go to because of the limited traffic.”

As a result, he questions the need for the venture. He asked, if the issues has more to do with the road itself and the proposed Roszell pit.

Lever said the gravel industry will not be using that section of the road. “I would expect we would do a traffic study on the volumes as a part of the whole process in the planning of it,” the mayor added.
