Puslinch strategic plan open house set for Jan. 14 at community centre

Residents are being invited to take part in a public open house to develop a  “shared vision” for the Community Based Strategic Plan (CBSP) for Puslinch.

Since receiving community input in September 2015, Dr. John Whitesell has worked with council members and senior staff to identify the township’s mission statement and strategic priorities.

The community improvement plan, master fire plan and the parks and recreation plan are being approved and integrated into the CBSP this fall/winter.

Now, it’s time to develop a “shared vision” for Puslinch.

The 90-minute consultation session will start with a presentation by Whitesell to update residents on the project and  why a “shared vision” is so important.

The remainder of the evening will resemble a workshop with plenty of interaction and stimulating discussions.

Organizers are expecting a large turnout for this event which is why the meeting is being held at the Puslinch Community Centre.

Local participation is a key element in the development of the “shared vision” for the Community Based Strategic Plan.

On Dec. 16, councillors here also spent considerable time choosing from several options for a proposed mission statement to present at the upcoming public meeting.

Mayor Dennis Lever had thought the decision would follow the public meeting.

CAO Karen Landry said the mission statement is something the consultant would like to be able to present that night – though adjustments could be made at a later point.

Of the several choices, the mission statement chosen by councillors reads as follows:”Progressing together to provide reliable and sustainable services to our residents, businesses and visitors. We will protect our resources while respectfully building upon our heritage as a safe, fun and prosperous rural community.”

Landry added that following presentation of the plan, it would still need to come back to council for adoption.

One councillor quipped, “So it can be changed again.”

“That is, essentially what I am saying,” Landry responded.
