Puslinch officials confirm a ‘number of departures’ from fire department

PUSLINCH – The township would neither confirm nor deny that a senior firefighter was recently fired, causing several other firefighters to quit in solidarity.

Acting CAO Courtenay Hoytfox said she could not comment directly, but offered a statement.

“We confirm that there have been a number of departures over the last week,” she stated in an email on Feb. 26.

“However, there is no immediate impact on emergency response and these vacancies will be filled in due course.”

Hoytfox also sent links to job postings on the township’s website for a deputy chief of operations and training and an assistant deputy fire chief of prevention and public education.

According to the job descriptions, the deputy chief of operations and training is a new position  and part of the township’s vision to expand the department to serve the expanding community.

“The deputy chief of operations and training will play a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness of the department, responding to emergency calls, managing personnel and resources, and overseeing the continuous development of fire service staff,” the job description reads.

The assistant deputy chief of prevention and public education position is also new, according to the job description.

This individual “will oversee the development, implementation, and management of the fire department’s fire prevention and public education programs,” the posting reads.

Applications close on March 5.
