Public meeting set for Wellington Place future

County councillors are hoping for a good turnout here when they host an open house to present a Wellington Place concept plan.

The open house is on May 25 from 4 to 8pm in Aboyne Hall at the County Museum and Archives, at 0536 County Road 18, between Elora and Fergus.

The plan deals with the entire property.

Because building is taking place on the site, councillors want a blueprint on how the entire property will be developed.

It currently includes:

– the museum and archives;

– library administration (Aboyne Branch);

– Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home;

– Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health;

– Crime Stoppers of Guelph-Wellington; and

– the Centre Wellington Ontario Provincial Police Operations Centre.

As well, Groves Hospital has purchased a portion of land known as the Trask farm for a future hospital and health services site on the property.

The open house provides the opportunity to develop a long-term preservation and enhancement plan for existing cultural and natural heritage infrastructure, while also creating an institutional campus to serve the needs of the county.

The concept plan, which will incorporate public comment, is being developed by a team of consultants including MacNaughton Hermsen Britton Clarkson Planning Limited and the Ventin Group Ltd. Architects.

A presentation outlining the project will be during the open house at 6:30pm.

Members of the public are invited to the open house to learn more about the draft concept plan, ask questions and provide feedback.
