Public health officials encouraging residents to stay up-to-date with immunizations

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Public health officials are urging residents to get caught up and stay up-to-date with vaccinations, some of which may have been missed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Immunization is one of the bedrock components of good health in our region,” stated Dr. Nicola Mercer, medical officer of health with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH).

“We saw over the past three years how important immunization can be to protecting all of us from serious illness.”

In the April 25 press release Mercer noted, “The COVID-19 immunization campaign was the largest one ever undertaken by our region.

“The willingness of each of us to play our part was core to our region’s high vaccination rates – among the best in North America.”

As public health officials recognize National Immunization Week (April 24 to 28) and celebrate the successful COVID-19 immunization campaign, they are reminding people of the protection provided by staying current with vaccinations moving forward.

“Whether that’s routine childhood immunizations, annual flu shots or COVID-19 boosters, I am encouraging each of you to make sure your vaccines are and stay up to date,” Mercer stated.

WDGPH offers vaccination services for adults and youth.
