Prairie Oyster coming to Riverfest on weekend

Country music veterans Prairie Oyster are taking the stage this Saturday at Riverfest, on the grounds of the Elora Centre for the Arts.

With 30 years of performing, Prairie Oyster members are stars of roots country music in Canada.

Riverfest opens on Friday at 7:30pm with Dala, two women who bring exquisite harmonies and a fresh brand of acoustic music to the folk and pop world. Dala has toured the country numerous times, opening for artists such as Jann Arden, Tom Cochrane, Stuart McLean of the CBC’s Vinyl Café, Matthew Good,  and most recently, Chantal Kreviazuk.

Zöe Janzen, darling of the ukulele internet set, opens the Friday evening show.

On Saturday evening, gates open at 6pm, when the barbecue and cash bar get underway.

Winnipeg’s House of Doc kicks off that show at 7:30pm. House of Doc is bent on reinventing folk music, and has been playing concerts and festivals across the country. They began their music career as a family band: the Wiebe family had been singing together since early childhood. When musician Matthew Harder joined the family by marrying Rebecca Weibe, they began to record and play professionally.

Riverfest, now in its second year, is a music celebration and community party. It is also an important fundraiser for the Elora Centre for the Arts.

On Friday, tickets are $20 for adults $20, $15 for students and seniors, and $5 for children 5 to 12. Show time is 8pm.

Saturday tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for students and seniors, and $5 for children 5 to 12 $5.
