Planting season in 2022 was great; Trees for Guelph hopes 2023 will be even better

GUELPH – Trees for Guelph says 2022 was its best planting season ever.  

The organization offered the following statistics:

– engaged with 25 Guelph schools; 

– over 7,500 volunteers paticipated; 

– planting programmes were conducted at more 30 different sites in Guelph; and 

– more than 7,000 woody plants went into the ground. 

As the 2022 plating program ended and all the numbers were tallied up, James Taylor made the decision to transition into the role of past president and Lisa Mactaggart has taken over as president of Trees for Guelph

Planting season 2023 will be the 33rd season and there are lots of opportuni es for planters of all ages to dig holes, plant, mulch, and water baby trees, shrubs, and wildflowers.   

There will be three Saturday community planting days this spring – rain or shine or snow:

– April 22, 9am to 2pm. Earth Day Tree Planting and Environmental Fair with Guelph Rotary and the City of Guelph. Location 335 Laird Road. Visit rotaryguelph.ca for more information.

– May 6, 9:30am to 12:30pm, at the Hanlon Business Park in Guelph.

– May 13, 9:30am to 12:30pm at Howitt Park in Guelph.

Trees for Guelph is also launching a brand new program called the Take Root Initiative. 

This collaboration  between Trees for Guelph, Forest Ontario, and the City of Guelph is a communitypowered initiative providing residents access to low or no cost native trees for their homes and neighbourhoods. Find all the details at treestakeroot.ca/guelph 

School-day planting sessions start April 17. Trees for Guelph will be facilitating planting and education sessions with elementary and high school students every weekday until the end of May.
