PIN transfers volunteer portal to United Way

GUELPH – The People and Information Network (PIN) held its final annual general meeting on June 22.

At that meeting, PIN announced its volunteer opportunity portal has been transferred to United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin.

United Way plans to relaunch the volunteer portal by Sept. 1.

“PIN’s board and membership is grateful that United Way has chosen to revive this core service that connects volunteers with local, non-profit organizations,” states PIN board chair Janet Kaufman in a press release

PIN ceased operations, including the volunteer portal, on March 31.

“While we’re sad to witness PIN’s closure as a volunteer advocacy and resource centre, we’re encouraged that this important service will continue under United Way’s leadership,” Kaufman added.

“Guelph and Wellington County have a strong history of volunteering, and this development will help our community build on that strength.”

United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin executive director Glenna Banda said, “PIN’s work in our community over the past 20 years has been the backbone of many of our community partners who rely on volunteers to assist with operations and delivering critical services in the community.

“We are so pleased to be able to provide this great resource to build the capacity of community partners.

“The portal also helps build community wellbeing and a sense of belonging by providing a central place for community members to find out more about getting involved and giving back.”

United Way has also agreed to administer a collection of 40 videos and presentations developed by PIN (sponsored in part by the City of Guelph) on the topic of volunteering and volunteer management.

PIN’s 2023 annual general meeting represents its last public event. The organization expects to wind down its financial and legal obligations this summer.
