Patriots score cash for hospital with every goal

MOUNT FOREST – Local residents have another reason to cheer on the Mount Forest Patriots Jr. C hockey team.

Since Dec. 3, Marty and Joanne Young and their team at Young’s Home Hardware have been donating $50 to the Mount Forest Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation for every Patriots goal scored.

The donations will continue for the rest of the 2022-23 season, including the playoffs.

“We’re really pleased to partner with the Mount Forest Patriots in support of our local hospital, said Marty Young, owner of Young’s Home Hardware.

This past weekend was a busy one for the Patriots. Saturday’s game versus the Wingham Ironmen was the  team’s North Wellington Special Olympics Night, featuring puck drop and flag bearers from the North Wellington Special Olympics group.

The Patriots also welcomed Mount Forest Minor Hockey (MFMH) players for their MFMH Day on Sunday afternoon, and entry was free for kids wearing their Mount Forest Rams jerseys.

The Patriots are having an excellent year thus far.  They are currently in first place in their division, and since the fundraiser began in December, have scored a whopping 75 goals, which works out to an average of more than four goals per game.

As of Feb. 6, this brings Young’s Home Hardware’s total donation to the Louise Marshall Hospital to $3,750.

“The Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation would like to extend a warm thank you to Marty and Joanne Young and their staff at Young’s Home Hardware for their ongoing support, and always creative fundraising ideas,” foundation officials state.
