Olympic wrestler Korey Jarvis visits Tri-City Training
GUELPH – Olympian Korey Jarvis visited Tri-City Training to give wrestling athletes an inspiring session at the ‘introduction to competition’ event on April 17.
Jarvis has been representing Canada internationally since 2007 but it was in 2014 when he earned his first victories, taking gold at the City of Sassari Tournament and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
In all, Jarvis has made nine appearances at the Pan American Championships, winning nine medals, including bronzes in both the freestyle and Greco-Roman disciplines.
The event at Tri-City is designed to prepare young athletes for the upcoming competition season, and focused on the mental and physical demands of the sport.
Jarvis, a veteran of the wrestling world, provided expert guidance on the preparation required to succeed, officials said, encouraging the athletes to embrace hard work and view every match as an opportunity to learn.

Beyond the technical skills, Jarvis spoke passionately about the broader impact of the wrestling path.
He highlighted the character building, resilience, and “grit” that wrestlers develop, noting that the friendships, community and confidence fostered on the mats serve athletes throughout their lives.
“Competing isn’t just about the scoreboard,” Jarvis shared with the group. “It’s about how we grow as individuals, on and off the mat.”
Following the seminar, Jarvis took to the center of the mat to referee the event, providing the young competitors with a unique, firsthand experience under the guidance of an Olympian.
Tri-City Training remains committed to developing not just skilled wrestlers, but resilient, community-minded individuals, officials say.
“As athletes from the club now prepare to head to upcoming provincial championships, they carry with them the lessons in grit and character shared by Jarvis,” they stated.
