New military history lecture series at museum

Guelph Museums has announced its fourth annual lecture series to take place this fall and winter in partnership with the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies (LCMSDS) in Waterloo.

Once again, five lectures featuring leading researchers and speakers from a number of academic institutions will be offered. The series kicks off with the always-popular Terry Copp from LCMSDS on Oct. 21 with Eisenhower and Montgomery: The Final Conflict.

On Nov. 18, Lee Windsor, from the Gregg Centre for the Study of War & Society, University of New Brunswick, will speak on The Destruction of 29th Panzer Grenadier Division: Canadians on the Marano River, Italy, September 1944.

The third lecture is Jan. 20, A Canadian in the RAF, by Geoff Hayes, University of Waterloo.

The fourth lecture is Feb. 17 by Andrew Iarocci, of LCMSDS who will speak on a World War I topic to be announced.

The final lecture will be Thursday, March 24 and the topic will be Afghanistan.

All lectures begin at 7:30pm and will take place at Guelph Civic Museum. The doors will be open at 6:30pm. The lectures are sponsored by the LCMSDS and are offered to the public at no charge. A selection of publications from LCMSDS Press will be available for sale at each lecture.
