MPP Ted Arnott invites Minister of Transportation to see why Morriston bypass needed

Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott is inviting Ontario Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca to take a first hand view at why Morriston needs a Highway 6 bypass.

On Dec. 3, Puslinch councillors reviewed forwarded correspondence by Arnott reitterating the need for the bypass.

“As the MPP for Wellington-Halton Hills I have raised this issue with you a number of times … I know you are well aware of the need to move this project forward and put it on your ministry’s five-year plan for highway construction.”

Arnott maintained this would improve safety for local residents and motorists, but would also have significant economic benefits since Highway 6 also serves as a major economic link between the 401 and the Hamilton/Niagara Regions and the US border.

“The current bottleneck is costing our economy millions of dollars every year.”

Arnott made note of the coalition now in place supporting the bypass.

That coalition includes Puslinch Township, Wellington County, the cities of Guelph and Hamilton and their respective chambers of commerce as well as members of the business community such as Tim Hortons, Maple Leaf Foods, Nestle Waters, Canada Bread and Cargill.

“The Morriston Bypass Coalition and I want to personally invite you to see the situation firsthand.”

Councillor Wayne Stokley added that Arnott has done a great job keeping this issue up front and keeps inviting the minister to come visit to see the situation.

“I think that is good and I hope the minister does take up on the offer.”
