More schools in district take on full day learning

Five more Upper Grand District School Board elementary schools have received approval from the provincial government to offer the full-day early learning program for 4- and 5-year-olds.

Those schools, beginning in September 2011, will join the 13 others that will introduce the program for junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten students this September.

The five additional schools are:

– Tytler PS, Guelph;

– Laurine Avenue PS, Guelph;

– Parkinson Centennial PS, Orangeville;

– Centennial Hylands, ES, Shelburne; and

– Victoria Terrace PS Fergus.

Information on the program will be provided to parents at the additional five schools during the coming school year.

Although Tytler and Laurine Avenue will be closing, the program will start at those schools in 2011 and move with the students to the new King George Public School when it is rebuilt as a junior Kindergarten to grade 8.

The timing for the rebuilding will be set following the outcome of the Central Guelph accommodation review, a decision on which is expected at the Aug. 31 board meeting.

The schools where the program will be offered in September this year are:

– Willow Road PS, Guelph;

– Grand Valley and District PS, Grand Valley;

– Laurelwoods ES – Orangeville;

– Brant Avenue PS – Guelph;

– Gateway Drive PS, Guelph;

Victoria Cross PS, Mount Forest;

– Princess Margaret PS, Orangeville;

– Priory Park PS, Guelph;

– Minto-Clifford PS, Harriston;

– Drayton Heights PS, Drayton;
