Milton councillors have voted unanimously to endorse Halton Region’s opposition to the James Dick Construction Limited’s proposal for a quarry in Guelph Eramosa Township on Highway 7 between Rockwood and Acton.

The July 25 motion was made by councillor Cindy Lunau and seconded by councillor Colin Best, who is also a councillor for Halton Region.  The crowd applauded the decision.

In September Milton council voted unanimously to object to the quarry application and to request that staff provide information as needed to support Halton Region’s position at any hearings.

Milton is now on record as the application enters an Ontario Municipal Board hearing beginning on Sept. 27, at the council chamber in Guelph Eramosa Township.

The Concerned Residents Coalition (CRC) has engaged five expert witnesses to provide evidence to the OMB hearing.

The CRC represents more than 1,100 residents of the area surrounding the proposed quarry site.

Milton council will consider a motion at its August meeting recommending funding in the amount of $10,000 to contribute to CRC’s expert witness expenses.

Halton Region will be bringing testimony by six expert witnesses to the OMB hearing to address issues related to blasting, karst hydrogeology, natural environment and planning.
