Marlin Bantams heading to Eastern Canada championships

The Palmerston Marlins Bantam team (U-16) competed at the Provincial Fastball Championships in Kitchener from Aug. 7 to 9.

By virtue of winning the gold medal at qualifiers, the Marlins were given a bye in play until Saturday at 7:30am, when they met a team from Stittsville. Both teams came out with bats blazing, however  the Marlins won to move forward in the ‘A’ division.

The next game was a nail biter against the Mississauga Tigers. The teams seemed very well matched and at the end of seven innings the score was 1-1. The game went into two extra innings using the international tie breaking rule and the Marlins again prevailed, with a score of 4-3.

LaSalle Athletics came to the field with a vengeance from qualifiers, giving the Marlins their first loss by a score of 7-4.

On Sunday only three teams remained as the local girls battled the Tigers and won 4-3, advancing to the finals.

LaSalle brought on their A-game to the final, as did the Marlins.

The Marlins were proud to bring home the silver medal,  giving them the opportunity to compete and represent Ontario in the Eastern Canadian Championships in St. Jean Sur Richilieu, Quebec from Aug. 26 to 30.
