Mapleton Township bans large fires

Ban aims to support 'emergency responders during the current emergency order' from province

MAPLETON – In response to the current stay-at-home order and additional provincial pandemic restrictions, Mapleton Township has issued a ban on large fires.

The decision, announced on Jan. 13, applies to fires larger than 2m by 2m.

“No open-air burn notifications will be issued until further notice,” states a township press release.

“This ban aims to reduce the risk of fire in the township and support our local emergency responders during the current emergency order from the Province of Ontario.”

Officials note there are fines and surcharges in place for those who violate the ban.

“We are aware these decisions may be an inconvenience for some, however the health and safety of the residents of the Township of Mapleton and our emergency responders are our top priorities and we believe these measures are necessary,” the release states.
