The Harriston Caressant Care Nursing and Retirement Home hosted its Harvest Luncheon and Bazaar on Oct. 29, in celebration of Long-Term Care Week, running from Oct. 24 to 28.
‘This event celebrates and recognizes the staff, residents, and families who have played an integral role in making Caressant Care an example of quality care,” said administrator Lynn Jamieson, noting that the Harriston Caressant Care facility has provided continuous quality care and services to 89 residents for 38 years.
Activity co-ordinator Audrey Domm, along with assistant Pauline LeBlanc and their volunteers welcomed residents, volunteers and family to the event.
They served lunch to the crowd, including resident Phyllis Grein who invited her daughter, Lorri Grein, grand daughter Amanda Parker, and great granddaughter Sophia, making it a four generation luncheon.
The bazaar featured home-baked treats, crafts, jewelry, Christmas decorations, artwork, and novelty items for sale.
Celebrating the occasion was an important gesture to recognizes the work of the staff, believes Jamieson. “Long-term care homes provide complex care and quality of life for their residents.
“We provide trained staff to effectively, compassionately, and safely care for the growing number of residents needing increasingly complex care,” she explains. “We are part of Ontario’s integrated health system that provides care to more than 100,000 people each year.”
The activity staff at the Harriston Caressant Care Nursing and Retirement Home are now planning a Christmas shopping excursion, another bazaar and a series of events and activities to engage residents and their families for the coming year.
