Locals to share perspectives on village in Africa

On Jan. 11 there will be a presentation of slides and stories from two people’s perspectives of their time in Africa in 2008.

Proceeds will be delivered in person to an orphanage in Lesotho, southern Africa. The event will be held at the Gorge Cinema at 4pm.

Elora residents Resa Lent and Rick Goodfellow will recount their recent respective adventures in Africa, through pictures and stories. Lent brought her culinary skills honed through 29 years of operating the Desert Rose Café to Lesotho.

There she became an integral part of the daily operation of a day school outside Masera, the capital city. Goodfellow, founding owner of Salem Cyclery for 16 years, tested his passion for bicycling by joining the flagship expedition of Tour d’Afrique in a route that took riders on a four month journey from Cairo to Cape Town. The generosity of the human spirit in those who face enormous challenge in much of Africa was a source of inspiration for them both.

Proceeds from the event will be delivered in person by Lent to Phelisanong (a grassroots community serving disabled HIV and AIDS orphans and vulnerable children) on her return to Lesotho this year.

Tickets are $7 for Gorge Cinema members, $10 non-members, and $6 children.
