Local historian Jean Campbell passed away suddenly on June 14 at her residence in Drayton.

The longtime columnist with the Community News, sister paper to the Wellington Advertiser, was 80 years old.

Campbell was heavily involved as a volunteer in the community, including roles with the Mapleton Historical Society, Wellington County Historical Society, Drayton Festival Theatre and in various other groups.

She served as clerk-treasurer with the village of Drayton for 17 years.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1pm on June 26 at the PMD arena in Drayton. Donations can be made in Campbell’s name to the Drayton Community Citizen’s Association, the Palmerston and District Hospital Foundation or Elmira District Community Living.
