Libraries focus on Poetry Month in April

April is National Poetry Month, and this year the League of Canadian Poets invites you to celebrate the 25th anniversary with the theme joy.

What inspires joy for you? Think about the small joys like a perfectly warm cup of tea on a frosty morning, or the larger joys like a reunion with a loved one. Try writing about them!

Poetry should be accessible to everyone because everyone has something valuable to share. There are so many diverse types of poetry to create and consume, and there is no better time to get started than now. Not sure how to get started? Check out a new volume of poetry from the Wellington County Library:

Weaving Sundown in a Scarlet Light: Fifty Poems for Fifty Years by Joy Harjo;

The Wife of Willesden by Zadie Smith;

And Yet: Poems by Kate Baer;

Passengers: Poems by Michael Crummey;

– In a Time of Distance and Other Poems by Alexander McCall Smith; and

This Script Is From the Past: Poems by Samantha Blair White

If you would like to try your hand at writing poetry, drop into the Harriston, Elora, and Marden branches during the month of April to try various poetry related activities, such as blackout poetry, book spine poetry and more.
