Hillsburgh speed cameras go live June 20

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Speed cameras will go live in Hillsburgh on June 20.

This is the sixth Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) location to be implemented as part of a one-year pilot program, which has generated over $3 million in revenue for the county.

Officials say the program aims to reduce speeding and improve road safety in school and community safety zones.

Located on Wellington Road 24 (Trafalgar Road) between Church Street and Jane Street, the community safety zone in Hillsburgh was chosen based on traffic data and safety reviews completed during the county’s road master action plan, officials say.

The cameras will be located within the community safety zone and “camera in use” signs will replace the previous camera warning signs, county officials stated in a press release.

The release also notes that between Jan. 15 and May 31, average vehicle speeds at the first five active camera locations dropped by 17 per cent.

“These cameras are about protecting people in our communities,” stated roads committee chair Gregg Davidson.
