Heritage permit application approval allows construction of Mill Stable Spa

On May 30, councillors agreed with a committee of the whole recommendation to approve the heritage permit application at 77 West Mill Street, Elora which will allow construction of the Mill Stable Spa building.

Approval comes with a number of conditions including:

– a conservation plan be submitted to and approved by Heritage Centre Wellington and registered with the site plan agreement for 77 West Mill Street prior to issuance of any building permits for the structure. The conservation plan should provide the strategy that will be used to inventory, disassemble, salvage and re-use the existing stone material of the stable ruins;

– a commemoration strategy for the Mill Stable building be submitted to and approved by Heritage Centre Wellington prior to the issuance of any building permits for the structure;

– Heritage Centre Wellington approve final exterior materials and colours for the proposed Mill Stable building; and

– any changes to the approved plans will require a heritage permit application.

The scope of this heritage permit does not include the enclosed pedestrian bridge that spans the Grand River (this item will be addressed through a subsequent heritage permit).
