Heritage consultant for Provost Lane home cost $1,500

The heritage status of a Provost Lane home in Fergus is currently in limbo, but one thing is certain: taxpayers of Centre Wellington will be facing consultant costs as part of the process.

Last month, Centre Wellington and the property owners came to an agreement to gather more information before deciding on the heritage status of the home at 240 Provost Lane.

Initial work included a report from a heritage consultant, but a structural engineer’s report was requested before council makes any decision.

At the time of that request, Centre Wellington managing director of planning and development Brett Salmon was uncertain of the costs involved.

But Salmon explained the township retained, and will pay for, the heritage consultant.

He anticipated the same would hold true for the structural engineer, as it was the township that requested the service.

On Feb. 2, Salmon responded via email to provide some of the financial specifics.

“The cost of the heritage consultant retained by the township to evaluate the property at 240 Provost Lane in Fergus was $1,500, not including HST and disbursements,” Salmon wrote in his email.

Final costs for the structural engineer are currently not known.
