Guelph-Eramosa holds inaugural council meeting on Dec. 1

“I’m very appreciative and humbled at being elected again,” Mayor Chris White said at the inaugural Township of Guelph-Eramosa council meeting on Dec. 1.

“It’s quite an honour to be elected in the community.”

At the meeting the new  2014-2018 council was sworn into office by clerk Meaghan Reid in front of a full audience.

The new council includes Mayor Chris White, Ward 1 councillor David Wolk, Ward 2 councillor Corey Woods and new councillors Louise Marshall (Ward 3) and Mark Bouwmeester (Ward 4).

“I think our township is in a great place,” White said. “We’ve been working hard for a number of years to do a bunch of things and I hope the folks have seen improvements across the board.”

He continued, “we’ve got an excellent council, I think we’ve elected a very stable government so there’s a lot of experience out there in the real world and in our bubble.

“The opportunities are unlimited and it’s up to us to tap into those, with certainly your input,” he said.

“We want to know what it is you folks would like us to do; we’re here to manage your assets, we’re here to do your bidding, so we absolutely will keep in touch on a regular basis to find out what it is you’d like us to do.”

Marshall said, “I’m humbled too, to have been elected in Ward 3, and I realize I don’t just represent the people of Ward 3 but I’ll be voting for the whole township wide so I’ll be paying attention to all the issues and doing my homework on your letters and any issues that come up.”

Woods thanked his family. “I wouldn’t be able to do this if I didn’t have the support of them,” he said.

Wolk said, “It is a humbling experience to serve here because you come into this not knowing fully what you’re getting into and there are good days and then there are other days,” he said.

“What matters is it’s an opportunity to get to know your community even better than you knew it before you arrived here.”

He also mentioned it’s an opportunity to give back to the community.

Last to address the public was Bouwmeester. He began by thanking the two outgoing councillors – “the positive side of that … is I get to work with councillor Marshall, get to know her a bit better, just the same as the rest of the council and staff as well.”

Snacks and refreshments followed the meeting.
