Guelph-Eramosa council briefs:

On Aug. 11 Guelph-Eramosa council heard the findings of a preliminary review of the site plan application for the new Sacred Heart Catholic School in Rockwood.

Primary considerations at the planned site off of Main Street include integration within the neighbourhood.

Additional pedestrian sidewalks will be needed to connect to the future surrounding subdivision and Rockmosa Park.

A decision regarding sanitary and water service to the school is also required with the option of a foremain or a gravity sewer to Gzowski Street. This would also require road restoration.

Council also wanted to know how construction on the property will affect the Norway Spruce hedgerow bordering the location. It will need to be protected from grading with a dripline, which could result in a shift of the entrance lane way and sidewalks.

Consideration for adjacent private properties will also need to be evaluated, with a decision made regarding a chain link fence or other visual screening.

A recommended site plan is expected to be presented to council on Sept. 2.

New truck purchase

In 2014, the township budgeted $210,000 for the purchase of a tandem truck with dump body, snow plow and wing equipment.

The intent was to replace Unit 209, a 2002 Sterling tandem axel combination dump/sander/plow.

During its meeting on Aug. 11, council approved public works foreman Rod McClure’s recommendation to purchase a Highway Sterling Western Star 4700 for $207,919 plus taxes.

Three bids were received during the tender which closed on July 31. Those included the Western Star, a Team Truck Centre Freightliner 114SD for $202,850, and an Altruck International 7600 SBA 6×4 for $199,046.

Council received the report and awarded the tender, stating at this time it is the most cost effective option for the municipality in terms of useful life of the vehicle.
