Group hopes to grow green, smart kids in town

The Erin Parent Connection is now in the business of growing green, smart kids.

On May 4 at Erin District High School (6:30 reception and event at 7pm) there will be a presentation of green inspiration featuring speaker, David Noble, an Al Gore trainee, environmental author, and leader, and a panel of local representatives in food, energy sustainability, and education.

Noble’s address, Environmental Leadership in Action – Stories from our warming world, is the climate story of people from across Canada and around the world, from artists and activists to corporate executives, national leaders and youth, who are responding to environmental challenges with creativity, courage, and commitment.

The key note address will be followed by a panel of local agents of change who will address environmental leadership initiatives in the community and encourage discussion of its green future.

The panellists include Upper Grand School trustee Kathryn Cooper; Everdale Farms, EGen Power founder Phil Winters, and local yurt dwellers Arlene and Chris  Slocombe.

The moderator will be Liz Armstrong of the Climate Change Action Group of Erin.

In addition, exhibits and information will be available to support parents and teachers with more green engagement for children and students. Come early for local treats and to see local green businesses and school initiatives.

While this event focuses on education, all community residents, teachers and environmental groups are welcome. Voluntary donations will be collected for the speaker. There will be prizes raffled for those who register in advance by email at erinps@ugdsb.on.ca. For more information on Noble visit www.2degreesC.com.
