GRCA hosting tree workshop

CAMBRIDGE — The Grand River Conservation Authority is hosting a Managing Trees Workshop for rural landowners to help develop skills and strategies to maintain and improve the tree canopy on their properties.

The day-long workshop is slated for March 7 at the conservation authority’s head office in Cambridge at 400 Clyde Road. It will cover a broad range of topics including planting and pruning, common tree diseases, invasive species, hazard trees, forest health, supporting wildlife habitat and opportunities to receive grants.

The workshop is specifically geared to properties larger than 2.5 acres and those larger than five acres may be eligible for funding for tree planting or wetland creation projects. Priority is given to areas directly adjacent to watercourses.

The free workshop runs from 9am to 3pm and includes lunch and a walk through a hardwood forest, weather permitting.
