Grand opening for upgraded Palmerston arena to be held Nov. 12

PALMERSTON – A grand opening will be held at the renovated Palmerston arena on Nov. 12 at 10am.

Community service director Matt Lubbers told Minto council on Nov. 1 the new dressing rooms at the facility, a major component of a $2-million upgrade to recreation facilities, are already in use.

A new entrance, corridor, accessible washroom, and four additional dressing rooms are highlights of the project.

“The new dressing rooms at the Palmerston arena are ready for public use, which is exciting,” said Lubbers.

“There’s still some work to be done by the contractor but it’s great to have access now. And we’re planning to celebrate with the grand opening event.”

Tours of the new facility will take place after the opening ceremony at 10am.

Councillor Ron Elliott said he’s been hearing complimentary remarks about the new dressing rooms and also upgrades to the existing rooms.

“But just even entering the building, it just makes it look like brand new,” he said.

The project, which includes additional and renovated dressing rooms at the arena and upgraded LED ball field lighting and a new ball field, is being funded through a $1.7-million grant from the federal/provincial Investing In Canada Infrastructure Program.
