Get growing at the Hillsburgh Garden Club spring plant sale

HILLBURGH –  Preparations are in full swing for the Hillsburgh Garden Club’s spring plant sale, set to take place May 20.

The funds raised will help beautify the community of Hillsburgh and encourage gardeners of all ages.

This is the Hillsburgh Garden Club’s only fundraising event, and the sale features a wide selection of annuals, perennials, herbs, tomato plants, hanging baskets and more.

Club members will be on hand to help shoppers with their plant selections and provide gardening advice.

There will also be a potting-up table for children.

“Whether you are looking to add annuals, edible plants, pollinator plants, perennials, or just a splash of colour to your garden, you are sure to find the right plant at the Hillsburgh Garden Club’s spring plant sale,” said plant sale chair Shari Penty.

“We are always striving to expand the diversity of our offerings, but quantities can be limited so it’s best to shop early to avoid disappointment.”

The sale runs from 8:30am to 1pm rain or shine at 9042 Wellington Road 22 between 3rd and 4th Line. Roadside parking only.

This is a new location due to construction on Trafalgar Road.

Also new this year, in addition to cash, e-transfers are now accepted as payment for purchases.

Founded in 1953, the Hillsburgh Horticultural Society and Garden Club is a proud member of OHA District 7, helping to beautify the community of Hillsburgh.

Through monthly meetings, guest speakers and three workshops per year, members learn and share gardening techniques.

The club also participates in community events such as Seedy Saturday, Earth Day, and Hillsburgh Family Fun Day.

And this year the Hillsburgh Garden Club is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.

To mark the occassion, the club is planning a free, festive garden party on July 23. More details on that to come.

For examples of their handiwork, the club maintains the gardens at the front of the Wellington County – Hillsburgh Library, the garden bed at Victoria Park, and the planter boxes on the Trafalgar Road bridge in Hillsburgh.
