Garden wildflower photo workshop

Soon the peonies and irises will be blooming, and some people may wish they knew how to photograph them.

Guest instructor and photographer Sylvia Galbraith will lead the Garden and Wildflower workshop at The Arboretum, University of Guelph on May 14 from 9am to noon, where participants will learn how to take inspired flower photos.

The course will include a discussion on the lighting, composing photos, working with colours, taking close-up images, and which equipment works best for garden and wildflower photography.

Participants will explore black and white for flower photography, abstract shapes and textures, and how different camera settings can be used for creative effects. The second half of the workshop will be outside, where the woods and gardens of the Arboretum will be photographed.

Participants should bring their camera and dress for the weather. People can use film or digital, SLR, or point and  shoot cameras. A tripod is recommended.

Registration is $55. To register by the deadline of, May 6, call The Arboretum at 824-4120 extension 52358.
