Forbes recognized for service to local conservation authority

It’s a new but familiar face to represent Minto at the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority.

As Minto council said farewell to representative Iain Forbes, it welcomed Mark MacKenzie as its new representative.

As Mayor David Anderson presented a certificate of recognition to Forbes, he called upon local Wellington County councillor Mark MacKenzie to assist him.

Anderson also noted that county councillor Walter Trachsel was in the audience.

When MacKenzie stated he had not realized he had any duties that night, Anderson responded, “It’s not a duty; it’s an honour.”

Deputy-mayor Judy Dirksen quipped that she was not certain about the Wellington North shirt MacKenzie was wearing. He is manager of the Mount Forest arena.

Anderson said explained that Forbes not only represented the Town of Minto, but also the Township of Wellington North.

“He has done a great job for us, and tonight we’d like to recognize him for supporting us and bringing our concerns to the conservation authority.”

He noted that when Forbes stepped down, MacKenzie stepped up to take on the position.

To MacKenzie, Anderson said, “I know you’ll look after us as well, as you have in the past.”

Both the certificate from the town and the SVCA recognized Forbes service.

“It’s very much appreciated, and I hope to follow well in your footsteps,” MacKenzie said.
