Five Erin businesses receive CIP grants

ERIN – The Town of Erin has awarded five businesses funding through the Community Improvement Plan (CIP) for projects that improve the property and promote local beautification and economic development.

The town budgeted $40,000 for the CIP program this year and awarded $34,645 to five qualifying local businesses.

Receiving the grants are:

– Erin Fitness;

– Furniture Renew;

– Grist Mill Properties Inc.;

– Kulhay Wellness Clinic and Educational Clinic; and

– Timpano Investment Properties Ltd.

The CIP Selection Committee reviews each application and determines if the project aligns with the Town of Erin’s CIP criteria.

Businesses are able to apply to the CIP through two annual application intake periods, one ending in March and one ending in September.

This year, the town expanded the CIP offerings to include incentives and provide assistance to more local businesses.

These incentives include grants for:

– accessibility improvement;

– building improvement;

– commercial conversion;

– design and study;

– downtown housing;

– façade and signage improvement;

– parking and landscaping improvement;

– planning application and building permit fees;

– public art; and

– tax increment equivalent.

The town estimates for every dollar invested by the municipality, $15 will be re-invested by the private business owner.

Mayor Allan Alls said, “2020 has been a challenging year for most, especially businesses. This year more than ever I am pleased that the town is able to support local businesses and invest in their projects through the CIP program.”

The next intake application period will end on March 26.
