Finnie: Town pays $348,446 for its ambulance service

Mayor Rod Finnie wants better ambulance service for his community, but he called last week to state that residents here are paying far less than $1-million per year for current services reported in last week’s Newspaper.

“We don’t pay directly for land ambulance,” Finnie said, explaining that Erin pays its taxes to Wellington County, and the county passes th ambulance fees along to Guelph, which runs the service.

Finnie added that the province pays half the costs of the total land ambulance bill that runs between $9- and $10-million. The county’s total share is $2.2-million, and Erin pays 15.69% of that.

Finnie said it is a “misconception” that the town pays $1-million a year for land ambulance that people say takes far too long to arrive.

He added, though, “We do contribute a lot, and I do agree we need better service.”
