MOUNT FOREST – The community is rallying around a family reeling from the loss of their father, husband and sole provider.

Paul Droog died in a car crash between Mount Forest and Riverstown on July 4.

“Paul was the kind of person that would put you first before himself,” his sister-in-law Kristina Gowan states on a webpage for a Go Fund Me campaign she launched to support Droog’s wife and five children.

“He wasn’t just our brother, he was our friend, and now it’s our turn to help his family push through this tragic loss.”

The 52-year-old Mount Forest resident was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle left the roadway and went into a ditch.

As of 10am on July 14, the fundraiser had raised over $12,000.

Droog was the sole provider in his home, Gowan states in the fundraiser: “He always made sure his family was provided for, bills were paid, and he worked damn hard to make sure those kids had everything.

“With Jen not being able to work because of her own health, she is now left to pick up the pieces and raise the kids without him,” Gowan continues.

The youngest Droog children are twins in elementary school, and the middle sibling, Abby, is starting high school in September.

Gowan is asking those who knew Droog to share stories as comments on the Go Fund Me page or on Paul or Jen’s Facebook pages, to bring light and smiles to his family.

“We know he was funny (or at least he thought so)” Gowan said.

On Droog’s obituary, Kelley Eves said, “He stood up and said so when he didn’t think something was right. He was open about his strong faith and how much he adored his family and pets.”

“Paul – Paulie Picket, Beetlejuice, Brother. We love you, and I’m so sorry we didn’t say it enough when you were here,” Gowan said in the Go Fund Me.

Droog’s funeral was set for July 15 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mount Forest at 11am, with a reception after the funeral mass and a visitation the day before at England Funeral Home.

A livestream of the funeral was set to be posted on the England Funeral Home website.
