ERIN – The Town of Erin has received $49,000 in provincial funding through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant (CEPG) program to strengthen emergency preparedness, service continuity and community resilience, officials say.

“This investment strengthens the Town of Erin’s readiness and operational resilience in the event of an emergency, helping to ensure essential services remain available when residents need them most,” stated town clerk Nina Lecic in a news release.

The funding will be used to buy new equipment and support a range of preparedness activities, including enhancements to emergency and continuity planning, training and exercises.

The funds will increase the capacity of emergency response facilities, ensure reliable communication during emergencies and help explore effective approaches to connecting with the public during major service disruptions, officials say.

By securing external funding the town can proactively address preparedness gaps while minimizing the need for unplanned capital or operating expenditures following an emergency, officials say.

“Part of our government’s plan to protect Ontario is making sure every community is prepared in the case of an emergency,” stated Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Joseph Racinsky.

Erin chief technology officer Asher Jaffri said, “As a municipality, we must be prepared not only for physical emergencies, but also for technology related disruptions that affect everyday services.

“This funding enables us to apply modern digital and resilience practices to protect critical services, strengthen emergency readiness, and deliver long term value to our residents.”

The project’s target completion date is Aug. 28.
