ERIN – The Erin Agricultural Society is accepting nominations for the 2026 Erin Fair Horse Heritage Awards.

Presented annually at the Erin Fair, the awards celebrate an individual, business, organization or horse that has made a meaningful contribution to Erin’s horse community.

Submissions must include one page explaining why the nominee’s contribution matters to Erin’s horse heritage, along with two photos.

All submissions will be reviewed and added to the Horse Heritage archives. The winner will be notified before the presentation, which takes place at 11am on Oct. 10 in the Equine Tent during the fair.

This year’s Equine Tent theme is Warhorse, honouring equine soldiers who served in the First World War and other conflicts, and commemorating the Royal Canadian Legion’s 100th anniversary.

Erin Agricultural Society volunteer John Duckworth has shared memories and photos from his father’s First World War service with Lord Strathcona’s Horse Mounted Cavalry of Winnipeg and military horse memorabilia, tack and photos will be displayed in the Equine Tent.

There will also be hand-crocheted poppy demonstrations and poppy-making sessions all weekend.

Nominations for the heritage awards are due Sept. 11 and can be submitted  by email to PartnershipErinFair@gmail.com, by mail, or in person to: Erin Agricultural Society, Horse Heritage Awards, 184190 Main St., P.O. Box 906, Erin, Ontario N0B 1T0.
