Erin has public surveys on long-term planning

ERIN – Residents are invited to fill out a survey as the Town of Erin seeks input on a strategic plan and a parks, recreation and cultural master plan.

A separate survey is soliciting the advice of local business owners, operators and staff for an economic development plan.

“The strategic plan is intended to recognize the uniqueness of the Town of Erin and set a long-term vision (10+ years) for its future success,” says the introduction to the resident survey, available at surveymonkey.com/r/Erin-resident-survey. “Residents’ views are crucial.”

The strategic plan will include a vision and mission as well as defined goals, objectives and priorities that are “realistic, achievable and measurable”, the survey says.

The parks, recreation and culture master plan will be the first comprehensive and integrated plan looking at the future of recreational services and programming in the town, the planning of active and passive park spaces and the building of robust cultural activity.

A public meeting to discuss that plan will be held March 27, 6-8pm in the Shamrock Room at the Erin Community Centre.

The business survey is at surveymonkey.com/r/Erin-economic-development-survey.

The surveys include checklists of options and priorities, plus space for personal comments. Responses to the surveys will not be made public.

Workshops are being held for the mayor, councillors and staff to make contributions to the strategic plan, with the next one on April 2, and there will be a consultation with the group Transition Erin.

A final draft of the strategic plan will be posted at erin.ca in early May for public comment, prior to its final adoption, which is planned for council’s June meeting.

Meetings with interested parties will also be held on the parks, recreation and culture master plan and economic development plan. Both are expected to be presented to town council in June or July.
