Eight winners in business enterprise awards

The Guelph-Well­ington Business Enterprise Centre held its annual Small Business STAR awards Oct. 26.

Eight businesses were rec­og­nized for contributing to the area’s economic growth.

The award for outstanding business plan sponsored by Miller Thomson Law Firm was awarded to Chris Chang, of the Defacto Group Inc. for the design and production of a business plan.

The innovative marketing award was presented to Dor­othy Amey, of Drawing Atten­tion, for taking marketing to a greater level of creativity.

The award for outstanding customer service was awarded to Michael Kroetsch, of Trans­portation Safety and Com­pliance Solutions. The award is given to a business that places clients first and establishes and retains positive relationships.

The outstanding technology honour was given to Steve Mil­l­er and Janelle McFarlane of Refilms Inc., a business that uti­lized technology improved productivity and expansion in global markets.

The retail business winner was Tamara Minns, of Rare­funk. The award is for a new re­tail concept successful in launching and creating a unique customers experience.

Janice Moffat, of Moffat Consulting, won the outstand­ing business consulting award for a business that has shown ability to direct others and im­part knowledge to other com­panies and assist them with bet­tering overall operations.

The award for rural out­reach was for an entrepreneur who creat­ed a successful and growing business through commitment, dedication, hard work and in­novation in Wellington County (outside of Guelph). The win­ner was Pricilla Tweedie, of Refresh’n Clean.

The new business of the year award was won by Carol and Natalie Vander Madden, of Anne Maaden Cosmetic Laser and Day Spa.
