Drayton outscores Community in church league play

FLORADALE 7 BETHEL 0

Floradale took an early lead with two unanswered goals in the first period. Braeden  Gingrich took a pass from behind the net and rifled a shot into the high corner, assisted by Gary Martin and Corey Wideman. Minutes later, Wideman made it 2-0, assisted by Willis Martin.

Floradale added another pair of goals in the second. Josh Brohman pinched in to finish a scramble at the net with a slap shot goal and Wideman knifed the puck into the top corner with a back handed shot for the other goal. Wideman’s goal was unassisted. Brohman was assisted by Nick and Willis Martin.

Floradale added a power play goal to start off the third. Willis Martin and Corey Wideman set up Brohman in front of the net. Brohman whistled the puck over the goaltenders glove for the goal.

Floradale added two more goals late in the game. Brohman scored his third for the hat trick, and Gingrich scored the final goal. Assisted by Nick Martin and Willis Martin.

Jason Newton faced nine shots in net to record his shut out.

DRAYTON 5 COMMUNITY 2

A busy first period had Drayton take a two goal lead before Community struck back for one. Jason Mohle opened the game for Drayton by tucking the puck into the short side, assisted by Eric Decker and Rob DeWeerd.

Joe Heenan skated a loose puck across the blue line and snapped a wrist shot into the top corner for an unassisted goal.

Community responded late in the period. Jeff Horst took a loose puck along the blue line and blasted a screened shot over the glove of the goaltender.

Drayton strengthened the  lead in the second period with a short handed goal. A stretch pass by Brandon Rumph sent Decker down the right side. Decker rang the puck under the crossbar with a wrist shot.

Drayton added another in the final minute of the period.  A wrist shot from the right face-off circle by Herman Mulder beat the net minder on the blocker side, assisted by Heenan and Chad Reinders.

Community came back for a short handed goal late in the game. Cal Martin sprang John Horst loose with the puck along the right side boards. Horst blasted a shot over the glove of the netminder for the final goal of the game.

MISSIONARY 5 LISTOWEL 4

Missionary opened the game with a goal in the first minute of play. Dylan and Curtis Bults fed the puck to Nathan Rhame pinching in over the blue line. Rhame blasted the puck to the back of the net for the goal.

Listowel tied the game with a power play. Ray Jantzi and Brandon Wagler set up Mike Metzger for a wrist shot into the short side corner.

Missionary regained the lead before the period ended. Tom Chambers snapped the puck into the high corner for the goal, assisted by Dave Scholten and Dave Arndt.

With each team short handed, Missionary used the four-on-four situation to add a goal in the second period.

Dave Scholten slipped a pass across to Rich Colwill who tipped the puck into the open corner.

The third period supplied  plenty of entertainment. Colwill stole a puck and snapped a rising shot into the top corner to start the period and build a 4-1 Missionary lead.

But then the Shantz brothers turned the game around for Listowel and scored three goals in four minutes to tie the game. Phil Shantz scored twice and assisted brother Josh who scored once and assisted on one. Line mate Andrew Jantzi assisted on two of the three third period goals.

With the game now suddenly tied Missionary swung back into action. Brady Franklin and Tom Chambers sent the puck to Dave Scholten in on the left side. Scholten skated in on net and scored with a shot in the top short side corner for the winning goal.
