Doors Open Fergus-Elora on June 23

There will be no need to knock, the doors will be open at more than 20 diverse venues here for the annual Doors Open Fergus-Elora on June 23.

The free event celebrates heritage, architecture, parks and culture and allows residents the opportunity to explore community buildings and heritage sites.

Sites such as the Wellington County Museum and Archives  will take visitors on a behind the scenes journey, while the Centre Wellington Food Bank in the Fergus Marketplace, will take visitors through its location to show how the facility is operated. Sites will be open from 10am until 4pm on June 23.

Historical walking tours in Fergus and Elora, presented by theatre group Older Voices, will take participants back in time with two costumed characters as they focus on issues and features of Fergus and Elora’s colourful past.

The Fergus tour starts at the Fergus library at 11am. In Elora, the tour starts at the Elora information centre at 2pm.

The Elora culinary walking tour will also be running at select eateries in that village. For more information, visit www.eloraculinarywalkingtour.com.

Using a Doors Open passport system, participants who visit at least five of the sites will receive stamps to be entered for a chance to win a one-night stay at the Brew House on the Grand.

Doors Open Fergus-Elora is a joint undertaking of Heritage Centre Wellington, the Wellington County Museum and Archives and Elora Fergus Tourism. It is part of  Doors Open Ontario and the Ontario Heritage Trust province wide initiative to celebrate community heritage.
