Director Ken Elder to retire in June

Centre Wellington council will be looking for a new Director of Public Works because Ken Elder is retiring in June.

“He has announced his retirement,” Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj said in an interview last week. “He’s a tough man to replace.”

She said Elder “made a huge contribution to our waste water treatment in our municipality.”

But, she added, “We’re pleased he’s going to move on to the more pleasurable things in life. He’s been with us since 1995.”

Elder was with Fergus and made the switch when amalgamation took place in 1999.

Ross-Zuj said the township’s drinking water and waste water “is the best.”

Council started over a year ago to take steps to hire new people according to the needs of the future. It called for job descriptions for all department heads to find out what skills are going to be needed in the year ahead.

She concluded, “We’re looking for someone to pick up where he’s left off – and that’s going to be a real challenge to find.”
